Protect the environment from tobacco pollution
Article 18 of the WHO FCTC requires Parties to give due regard to protecting the environment and human health in relation to tobacco cultivation and manufacture. GGTC develops evidence, supports producer-accountability policies and coordinates global action on hazardous waste, filters and tobacco plastics.

Policy Basis
Article 18 of the WHO FCTC provides the treaty basis for environmental protection linked to tobacco cultivation and manufacture. This area also draws on COP decisions and wider environmental policy frameworks covering hazardous waste, plastic pollution, product regulation and producer accountability.
