Stop tobacco industry interference

Article 5.3 of the WHO FCTC requires Parties to protect tobacco-control policymaking from the commercial and other vested interests of the tobacco industry. GGTC mobilises the strongest possible safeguards through monitoring, advocacy, policy guidance and technical assistance, supported by research and evidence on industry tactics and commercial influence.

Policy Basis

Article 5.3 and its implementation guidelines provide the primary treaty basis for protecting public health policymaking from commercial and other vested interests of the tobacco industry. This area also draws on Article 19, Article 16, Article 18 and relevant COP decisions, along with authoritative WHO links and other relevant texts.
